Hunger in Gaza: One in three children suffers from malnutrition
The Gaza Strip is facing a crisis signaling a genuine humanitarian disaster. Despite being densely populated, many areas resemble ghost towns after six months of war. A famine has struck the strip, claiming the lives of numerous individuals. Residents in Gaza are experiencing a slow death due to food scarcity and the prevention of aid from entering the region. Air strikes often result in the loss of dozens of lives, as people risk their safety just to obtain necessities like flour. Additionally, the situation in the northern part of the strip is dire, with aid only able to enter through two southern crossings or insufficient airdrops. The United Nations agency UNRWA has declared the situation in the north as tragic, as ground aid remains blocked despite repeated appeals.
On the other hand, the population in the southern Gaza Strip is grappling with inadequate shelter and food. The southern region is teeming with displaced individuals, numbering around 1.7 million according to UNRWA statistics.
One in three children suffers from malnutrition in the northern Gaza Strip
In the northern Gaza Strip, one in every three children suffers from malnutrition, according to UNRWA’s recent report. The agency highlights a concerning trend of malnutrition spreading rapidly among children in this area, reaching levels never seen before. With warnings of an imminent famine looming over the region, the severity of the situation is underscored by the fact that one-third of children under two years old are affected by malnutrition. This alarming reality poses a significant risk to the health and well-being of children, necessitating immediate measures to enhance nutritional conditions and ensure essential supplies for families across Gaza.
